IOPN Awards logo 2016The Network Intelligence Alliance (NI Alliance), an industry organization promoting collaboration among vendors of products or solutions based on network intelligence, announced the finalists of the Intelligent Open Networking (IOPN) Awards 2016.

These industry awards recognize and reward service providers and technology vendors that successfully combine intelligence with open networking. Winners will be announced on Tuesday, 23 February 2016, during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, at the IOPN Awards Evening.

Parallel Wireless’ HetNet Gateway (HNG) WINS the 2016 IOPN Award for “Best Innovation combining intelligence with open networking”! This award win is a great honor and we are grateful to the judges for this recognition and to our hard-working team whose continuous drive to Reimagine the RAN has made this award possible.

How does HetNet Gateway combine intelligence with open networking?

HNG is designed to combine the benefits of gateway VNFs with real-time SON and centralized scheduling in one intelligent solution to reduce complexity and costs of deploying multi-vendor, multi-technology HetNets. HNG is the industry’s first carrier-grade, NFV/SDN-based, 3GPP compliant RAN orchestrator that unifies any technology and any vendor RAN to present it as one common interface to the core. HNG logically sits between the RAN and core and abstracts the RAN on any COTS hardware while making RAN self-configuring, self-optimizing, and self-healing; this also enables HNG to reduce signaling/paging load on the core.

Moreover, these functions interwork with one another instead of operating in individual silos to deliver agility and flexibility across the network. By virtualizing so much RAN functionality on one platform, HNG is a true example of vRAN technology.

HNG makes any RAN easy to deploy, scale, and maintain while delivering QoS across any licensed or unlicensed technologies, even on the cell edge. HetNet Gateway is an essential component to our recently announced enterprise solution as HNG intelligence enables the use of any “white box” femto cell to be deployed in the enterprise network; this is just one example of how HNG enables open networking.

As a result of HetNet Gateway’s vRAN approach, service providers can deliver higher device density and build or grow the RAN at a much lower cost, thus making cellular deployments as easy and cost-effective as Wi-Fi.

We are very excited to hear the awards announcement from The Network Intelligence Alliance at this year’s Mobile World Congress! In addition to the IOPN Awards, Parallel Wireless has been nominated for GSMA’s Global Mobile Awards for Best Mobile Breakthrough Technology with Saguna and will also participate in a speaking session on network disruptors at MWC on 2/22/16.

Thank you once again to the NI Alliance and all the judges – we look forward to seeing you all at MWC 2016!
