Parallel Wireless Introduces Next-Generation Agile RAN Solutions: Empowering Networks through Kubernetes and Open-RAN Innovations

Parallel Wireless is glad to announce the launch of its new generation of agile and intelligent RAN solutions.  Version 7.x of the PW RAN marks the beginning of a new era in empowering RAN networks.  With the transition to containerizes applications and implementation over Kubernetes, Parallel Wireless’ best in class all-G open RAN solutions are ready to revolutionize the Cellular market.  MNOs can now enjoy a variety of game changing features that were unavailable before including True Centralization, Clusterization, smart Edge to Cloud deployment, Urbanization and Intelligent Network-wide applications.  The new release is based on Open-RAN allowing all the benefits of the standardized echo-system, yet many of the new and powerful innovations enabled by it are patent protected and unique to the Parallel Wireless offerings.

One of the major advantages of the new “RAN over Kubernetes” is the enhancement of cellular networks through real-time coordination between the different cells.  Whole clusters of cells can now operate in unison through central algorithms.  Each cell and site are no longer separate units out there on their own. Clusterization means that whole areas work together to enhance availability, improve reception, reduce power, optimize spectral efficiency and much more.

Mobile network operators enjoy great synergy through “RAN over Kubernetes”.  Each of the separate improvements bring its own substantial value, but together they create a huge impact.   The new architecture moves network components away from the cell tower to central data centers or even to the cloud.  This means immediate and clear saving as it simplifies the cell-site, saves CAPEX in real estate, batteries & power, and OPEX in maintenance, security, and serviceability.  Furthermore, now that the various components of the different Baseband units are at the same central location they are also sharing a common server.  This allows them to share resources, share data in real time and operate together to solve some of the most challenging issues in Radio Access Networks such as spectrum optimization and energy saving. Thus, the Parallel Wireless Agile Centralization is far beyond a central repository of baseband units. It is a unique central processing center bringing new and innovative applications that were impossible with traditional RAN deployments.

The Agility and Intelligence enabled by the new release extends beyond the benefits of centralization. New and innovative network wide intelligent applications are now provided by the Parallel Wireless RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC).  With the new software release, near Realtime applications can be implemented for an additional layer of intelligence varying from Access Control through Traffic Steering all the way to novel and advanced applications such as QoS on Demand, Indoor Enhancements and Power Optimization.  Intelligence is now coordinated across all network components ranging from the real-time enhancement of centralization, the near real-time enhancement of the RIC all the way to big data analysis and AI enhanced decision making at the SMO.

As Parallel Wireless is an all-G RAN provider, the new 7.x release offers full solutions from 2G to 5G that enjoy many common infrastructures and services. A variety of RAN deployments is supported, from Rural to Urban, from Indoor to Outdoor and from Small cells to Macro cells. As before, MORAN and MOCN are supported, as well as other deployments such as DAS.  Beyond legacy features, the new release offers innovations in line with the latest available standardization. A variety of new HW are also supported including new RRHs, new low-cost distributed vBBUs, Centralized servers and data centers, and support for a variety of private and public clouds.
